When I first moved to the US, I was lucky (?) enough to watch a tornado travel down the river next to my apartment building. In the UK weather is something that is often irritating, but it doesn’t threaten your life. This was different, and made quite an impression. Ever since I‘ve had an occasional nightmare where I am chased down by waves of tornados. The context of the dream changes, but the tornados always win. This was painted immediately after waking up from one of those nightmares.
